Luster, the winner of the Woodbine Oaks on July 19, is among the probable entries for the 167th running of the King’s Plate, scheduled for August 15 at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto. The King’s Plate, which carries a purse of $1 million, is the first leg of the Canadian Triple Crown.

Luster’s recent victory in the Oaks positioned the filly as a leading contender, as historically, the Woodbine Oaks and the King’s Plate serve as key prep races, both contested over 1 1/8 miles on Woodbine’s Tapeta synthetic track. In 2022, Moira accomplished the double by winning both the Oaks and the King’s Plate in the same year.

Joining Luster in the probable field is Highway To the Moon, who secured the Plate Trial victory at Woodbine on the same day as Luster’s Oaks triumph. The Plate Trial is a notable indicator of potential success in the King’s Plate due to its comparable conditions. Highway To the Moon is a gelding trained by Dale Desruisseaux, while Luster is trained by Josie Carroll, who notably became the first female trainer to win the King’s Plate in 2006 with Edenwold.
