Lyceum Assessments and Open College Network London (OCN London) have announced a new partnership aimed at enhancing English language education and providing internationally recognised qualifications to learners in Sri Lanka. The collaboration combines Lyceum Assessments' expertise in local educational assessments with OCN London’s status as a UK awarding organisation, creating opportunities for students to gain structured English learning pathways aligned with global standards.

The partnership was officially launched in the presence of key figures including Mr. Carlos Cubillo-Barsi, Chief Executive Officer of OCN London; Dr. Ineke Ann Pitts, business strategist and educator; Dr. (Mrs.) Kumari Grero, Coordinating Principal Emeritus of Lyceum International School; and Ms. Premila Paulraj, Chief Executive Officer of Lyceum Education, alongside other educators and representatives from educational institutions.

Central to this initiative is the introduction of the OCN London Young Achievers English programme, which is designed specifically for young learners to systematically develop their English language skills. The programme is structured into three progressive levels—Pre-A1 Explorers, A1 Adventurers, and A2 Voyagers—each mapped to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This offers students a clear developmental trajectory starting from foundational to more advanced English proficiency.

Of the three stages, the Pre-A1 Explorers qualification has been developed exclusively for Lyceum Assessments and is regulated by OCN, while the A1 Adventurers and A2 Voyagers levels are regulated by Ofqual, the UK’s official qualifications regulator. These certifications provide learners with recognised UK qualifications as they advance through the programme.

Ms. Premila Paulraj emphasised the significance of the partnership, noting that mastering English is a critical life skill that opens global opportunities. She added that Lyceum Assessments is committed to making the programme practical and accessible for non-native speakers by including all necessary learning materials at no extra cost and providing training and continuous support for teachers across Sri Lanka.

Mr. Carlos Cubillo-Barsi highlighted the broader impact of the collaboration, describing it as a transformational step expected to influence the lives of many young students by offering an international pathway in English language education.

The Lyceum model stresses accessibility alongside quality, providing each registered student with complimentary Student Books and Workbooks to support their learning. Additionally, the programme offers free teacher training to equip educators with the tools and guidance necessary to effectively deliver the curriculum.

This partnership marks a significant milestone in Lyceum Assessments’ broader efforts to expand access to international qualifications within Sri Lanka. By partnering with OCN London, the organisation aims to provide schools and educational institutions across the country with a structured framework for delivering English language education, including ongoing academic and assessment support.
