More than 2.17 million students have redeemed RM100 Madani Book Vouchers this year, reaching a 97.34% redemption rate as of October 19, according to Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh. The voucher programme, initiated by the Education Ministry, is scheduled to conclude on October 31.

Wong stated that the scheme has facilitated the purchase of 5.59 million books to date through the ministry’s online Book Capital platform. He added that the ministry is aiming for full redemption by the end of the programme.

A total of 2,234,101 students enrolled in public institutions under the Education Ministry—including those in secondary schools, vocational colleges, matriculation colleges, teacher education institutes, and Form Six colleges—were eligible to receive this year’s RM100 vouchers. The ministry allocated RM230 million for the programme in 2026, excluding institutions under the Higher Education Ministry's jurisdiction.

In response to concerns about the adequacy of the RM100 voucher amount amid rising living costs, Wong explained that the value was determined based on the government’s current financial capacity.

Wong also defended the use of the Book Capital platform, citing its role in ensuring that vouchers were exclusively redeemed for books and preventing misappropriation of funds. He emphasized that the programme has maintained “zero leakage and 100% transparency” throughout its three-year history. The platform currently hosts 1,076 active sellers offering 822,842 book titles, a significant increase from 168 sellers when the programme launched in 2024.

Since its inception, the Madani Book Voucher programme has generated cumulative sales of approximately 14.94 million books valued at RM489.32 million. This has supported various segments of the book industry supply chain, including authors, publishers, printers, distributors, booksellers, and logistics providers.

The programme’s impact in previous years included benefiting 3.57 million recipients and generating purchases of 7.8 million books backed by a RM287 million allocation in 2024. Additionally, last year, 428,027 education service officers received Madani Teacher Book Vouchers, leading to 1.55 million books sold with funding of RM43 million.
