Christian Brueckner, the prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, was reportedly involved in an altercation with police officers outside a supermarket in Kiel, Germany, on June 6. According to a police spokesman, the incident began when Brueckner used his phone to take pictures of officers, who then requested that he surrender the device. When he refused, a physical confrontation ensued, resulting in at least one officer sustaining injuries.

Brueckner, who was released from prison in September of last year, has previously come under police scrutiny. In April, authorities investigated his involvement in a street fight in which a British national was also implicated, though he was subsequently released without charges.

The 44-year-old German national was convicted in 2019 for the rape of a pensioner in Praia da Luz, Portugal, an area where Madeleine McCann disappeared in 2007 at the age of three. He was sentenced to serve 14 years in prison. Brueckner was identified as the prime suspect in Madeleine’s disappearance in 2020, though no conclusive resolution has been reached in the ongoing investigation.
