American tennis player Madison Keys secured her third Eastbourne title on Saturday by defeating Germany’s Tatjana Maria 7-5, 6-4 in the final of the grass-court tournament held on the south coast of England. The event serves as a key warm-up for Wimbledon, which is set to begin on Monday.

The 31-year-old Keys, seeded second, controlled the match throughout the 93-minute contest against the 38-year-old Maria, who is ranked 112th in the world. Keys faced just one break point and converted opportunities effectively to maintain her dominance. Although she connected on 58% of her first serves, Keys won 88% of those points, demonstrating strong performance under pressure.

This victory marked Keys’ first title since winning her maiden Grand Slam at the Australian Open last year and her 11th career WTA Tour title overall. With wins at Eastbourne in 2014 and 2023, Keys joined esteemed company by becoming one of the few players—alongside Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova—to win three or more titles at the Eastbourne event.

Keys’ success at Eastbourne underscores her proficiency on grass courts. Along with her Eastbourne titles, she also won the Birmingham Classic a decade ago, bringing her total grass-court titles to four. Despite this, Keys has yet to progress beyond the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.

The tournament run also served as a measure of redemption for Keys, who last faced Maria on grass at the Queen’s Club semifinals in 2025 but was defeated. This time, Keys was able to reverse the outcome and take the title.

Following her Eastbourne triumph, Keys is set to begin her Wimbledon campaign facing fellow American Kayla Day in the first round on Tuesday. The victory provides momentum and confidence as she aims to advance further in the Grand Slam event.
