Madonna’s planned biographical film has been cancelled due to disagreements over its budget, the singer revealed in a recent interview. She explained that she had been developing the project for several years, working closely with Universal Studios on the script, budgeting, and casting.

According to Madonna, she dedicated two years to writing the script and spent an additional two years collaborating with Universal’s line producers. She emphasized the importance of a substantial budget to authentically capture her “extraordinary life,” but said the studio was unwilling to meet those financial expectations. Madonna also explored alternative options, including proposing to film in Serbia as a cost-saving measure and attempting to buy back the script from Universal. However, she described the studio’s asking price as “extortionist.”

The film had initially attached Julia Garner, known for her role in the series "Ozark," to portray Madonna. Despite the progress made in casting and planning stages, these financial disagreements ultimately halted production.

Universal Studios has not publicly responded to requests for comment on the cancellation. The situation highlights the challenges often faced in bringing biographical projects to the screen, particularly when high production values and complex portrayals are involved.
