The Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees hosted the Maha Samaya Day ceremony on the morning of May 30 at the iconic Shwedagon Pagoda. Marking the Full Moon Day of Nayon, the event began at 5 a.m. with a grand alms food offering at the reception pavilion on the pagoda platform. Members of the board and representatives from various religious associations participated by presenting offerings including food, flowers, water, fruits, and oil lamps to pay homage to the Buddha.

Following the initial offerings, participants proceeded to the Yaungtawphwint Prayer Hall, where meals were presented to the Shwedagon Ovadacariya Sayadaws and invited monks. A water-pouring ritual was then performed to share merits for the collective good deeds of all involved.

The Maha Samaya Day procession commenced from the Chanthagyi Prayer Hall, reenacting the historical origins of the day. It featured a royal procession symbolizing the kings, ministers, and regalia of the ancient kingdoms of Kapilvatthu and Koliya. Pilgrims and participants paid respects through a full clockwise circumambulation around the pagoda platform.

The ceremony continued with recitations and ritual invitations at the Chanthagyi Prayer Hall. Attendees collectively chanted the Maha Samaya Sutta, followed by prayers, sharing of merits, and the recitation of "Sadhu." The event concluded with a threefold recitation of “May the Buddha’s teachings last forever,” underscoring the spiritual significance of the occasion.
