Josh Armstrong secured his first victory on the PGA Tour of Australasia at the PNG Open, held Sunday at the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club. The 27-year-old golfer from Canberra had previously achieved 11 top-10 finishes but had not clinched a tournament win until this event.

Armstrong entered the week with a strategic equipment change, opting for a new putter designed to provide more loft, aiming to better adapt to the local greens. Despite this adjustment, his final nine holes were challenging; he dropped three shots over two holes, including a double bogey on the 14th hole. Nonetheless, he demonstrated resilience by stabilizing his performance over the last four holes, finishing the tournament at 14-under-par.

His closest competitor, Lachlan Aylen, ended the event two shots behind at 12-under-par after bogeying the final hole, effectively sealing Armstrong’s victory. The tournament marked the start of the PGA Tour of Australasia season.

Reflecting on his win, Armstrong acknowledged the difficulties he faced during the closing stages but emphasized maintaining a positive mindset and belief in his abilities. He expressed that the reality of his achievement might fully register only after the competition.

This victory represents a significant milestone in Armstrong’s career, highlighting his persistence and adaptability after numerous near misses on the tour.
