Kasai UK, an automotive component manufacturer based in Sunderland, is celebrating 35 years of operations in the city. The company marked the milestone with an event that brought together employees, business partners, and civic leaders to reflect on its growth and contributions since establishing its UK presence in 1991.
As part of the commemorations, Kasai representatives, alongside officials from Sunderland City Council, the Embassy of Japan, and the Consulate General of Japan, planted a Japanese maple tree on company grounds. The tree was selected to symbolize endurance, balance, and long-term growth, complementing two cherry blossom trees originally planted at the site, which represent renewal, prosperity, and positivity.
Operating from its Washington facility, Kasai UK manufactures interior trim components for major global automotive brands. The company employs just under 500 people and produces more than 1.1 million door trims and over nine million pillar and trunk hard trims annually. Over the past three and a half decades, Kasai has become an integral part of Sunderland’s internationally recognized automotive sector.
Kasai UK has consistently invested in its workforce, manufacturing facilities, and sustainable processes. Most recently, the company introduced solvent-free adhesive technology to significantly reduce its carbon emissions, advancing its environmental goals.
Jill Usher, managing director of Kasai UK, highlighted the significance of the anniversary, noting that the company’s success is rooted in the commitment of its employees, support from customers, and strong regional partnerships. She emphasized that Kasai has evolved alongside the automotive industry by adopting new technologies and promoting sustainable manufacturing, expressing optimism about the company’s future prospects.
