Malayalam actor Mammootty has been appointed as Kerala Police’s “Cyber Security Captain” as part of a new initiative aimed at combating rising concerns over online fraud and cybercrime. The announcement was made by Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala during an event held in Kochi on Saturday.
At the event, Chennithala also launched Click (Community Led Initiative for Cyber Resilient Kerala), a programme developed by the Kerala Police Cyber Wing with the goal of enhancing the state’s cyber resilience by 2027. The initiative seeks to engage the community in spreading awareness about cyber threats and promoting safer online practices.
Mammootty, a prominent figure in the Malayalam film industry, emphasized the importance of awareness among young people in thwarting cybercrime. He urged the youth to adopt an active role in safeguarding against cyber threats while also calling on parents to guide their children in the responsible use of technology.
“Technology can be used for both good and bad purposes, and the internet is no exception,” Mammootty said, highlighting the dual nature of digital advancements.
The campaign reflects Kerala Police’s broader efforts to address the growing challenges posed by cybercrime, focusing on public education and community involvement to build a more secure digital environment.
