Veteran Malayalam actor Mammootty has been honoured with his fourth National Film Award for Best Actor at the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony held recently. He received the accolade for his role as Kodumon Potti in Rahul Sadasivan’s black-and-white horror film, *Bramayugam*. Mammootty shared the Best Actor award with Kartik Aaryan, who was recognised for his performance in *Chandu Champion*.

Speaking on the red carpet, Mammootty described the award as a significant source of inspiration and expressed gratitude to the many collaborators who supported him throughout his career. “It’s an inspiration to every performer to get recognised by the nation and I’m very fortunate to have my fourth National Award for the Best Actor,” he said.

The actor acknowledged the collective effort involved in bringing his character to life, highlighting the contributions of the film’s director, technical teams, including make-up, costume, and cinematography. His role in *Bramayugam* required a considerable physical transformation and saw him portray a mysterious and commanding figure central to the film’s storyline.

Reflecting on his lengthy career, Mammootty emphasised his commitment to continuing his craft. “I’m very happy that I could entertain [audiences] for such a long time and hope that I can do it more, more and more times. I can only assure you that I’ll be working very hard to be there,” he remarked.

When asked about his approach to selecting roles, Mammootty kept his process straightforward, stating, “I choose the script, then the role.” The actor’s dedication to storytelling and his versatility across decades have cemented his status as one of India’s most acclaimed performers.

This latest award adds to Mammootty’s distinguished legacy but, as he noted, his career is far from over. He remains eager to explore new opportunities and continue entertaining audiences in the years ahead.
