Greek authorities have detained a 26-year-old man suspected of involvement in the death of Elisabeth-Jane Ross, a 38-year-old woman from Edinburgh, whose body was found in a suitcase in Athens. The discovery occurred on July 18 in the Kypseli district, when a homeless individual came across the suitcase containing her remains.

Police reported that the suspect, believed to be of Afghan origin, has admitted to transporting Ross’s body to an abandoned building. Investigators estimate that Ross died between five and seven days before her body was located.

During a search of the suspect’s residence, police recovered a replica pistol and a knife. Authorities have opened a case against him on charges including manslaughter, robbery, and violations of weapons laws. However, formal charges have yet to be finalized as the investigation continues.

Officials have not disclosed details on the circumstances surrounding Ross’s death, nor have they confirmed a motive. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek further clarification on the events leading up to her death.
