A 21-year-old man was arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of his sister’s former partner in the Bronx on July 20. Authorities said the incident occurred near Riverdale Avenue and West 232nd Street around 5 p.m.

Javid Edwin is accused of stabbing 34-year-old Tyrell Scott in the chest during an altercation. Scott, who is the father of Edwin’s sister’s unborn child, was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he died two days later.

At a late Monday arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court, Edwin’s attorney, Geoffrey St. Andrew Stewart, argued that Edwin acted in self-defense. According to Stewart, Edwin and his siblings were meeting near the location after his sister’s work shift to practice driving back to their family home in Yonkers. They were confronted by Scott, despite an active order of protection barring Scott from contacting or approaching Edwin’s sister or her family. The order was related to two pending domestic violence cases in Yonkers in which Scott had been charged with aggravated harassment.

Stewart stated that Scott “didn’t come to make peace” and immediately began arguing with Edwin, eventually attacking him, which precipitated Edwin’s response. Edwin allegedly stabbed Scott once during the confrontation. The defense described Edwin as younger and physically smaller than Scott, characterizing the single stab wound as inconsistent with intent to kill.

Prosecutors noted Edwin’s failure to call emergency services after the incident, citing that he left the scene in a vehicle despite awareness of Scott’s injury. The defense acknowledged Edwin did not dial 911 but said Edwin’s sister did so.

Scott had several open criminal cases across multiple jurisdictions, including charges for domestic incidents, terroristic threats, use of a fake ID, and violations of orders of protection. His history was described in court as marked by volatile and abusive behavior toward Edwin’s sister and her family members, including threats and physical confrontations.

During a previous episode, Scott reportedly pursued Edwin and family members in a vehicle and used bear spray against them following a dispute related to his relationship with Edwin’s sister.

Edwin, who has worked as a hotel waiter in Tarrytown for nearly a year, was ordered held without bail. His sister, visibly distressed during the proceedings, left the courtroom shortly after the bail decision.

The stabbing took place in front of the Bereshit Lifestyle Center, a building also linked to a separate investigation. The day before the stabbing, 27-year-old Elizabeth Baron suffered a fatal cardiac arrest following an injection of NAD+ at the clinic housed there. The clinic’s unlicensed operator, Luis Rojas Cabrera, was arrested on charges including practicing without a license and reckless endangerment. The relationship of Edwin’s sister to the wellness center remains unclear.
