A man in Brevard County, Florida, has been charged with animal cruelty following the death of his three dogs, authorities said. Donnell Smith was arrested after his dogs were found dead inside his trailer, where they had allegedly been confined for several days without food, water, or proper ventilation.
Smith is also connected to a tragic incident last month in which his longtime partner, 50-year-old Jodi Cowan, was fatally attacked by her neighbor’s pit bulls. Despite witnessing the attack, Smith has now been implicated in the neglect of his own animals.
Law enforcement officials took Smith into custody on animal cruelty and related charges. He is currently being held on a $15,000 bond. Authorities have not disclosed additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the dogs’ deaths or whether further charges may be forthcoming.
