A man in his 30s remains in critical condition after a police chase ended in a collision with a roundabout in Consett, County Durham. The incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, September 23.

Durham Constabulary officers responded to reports of a disturbance at a residence in the Catchgate area of Stanley at approximately 10:10 p.m. During the police response, a white Renault Kangoo van, believed to be connected to the incident, was spotted nearby. The driver failed to stop when signaled by officers, prompting a brief pursuit.

The chase concluded when the vehicle collided with the Villa Real roundabout in Consett. The driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Royal Victoria Infirmary for treatment. Authorities confirmed he is currently in critical condition.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. The matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which will oversee the probe into the police involvement in the case. Durham Constabulary has not disclosed further details at this time.
