A 31-year-old man died early Saturday following a single-vehicle collision on the A1(M) near Durham. The incident occurred at approximately 2:20 a.m. on August 22 between junction 61 at Bowburn and junction 60 at Bradbury, according to Durham Constabulary.

Emergency services responded to the crash involving a red Peugeot 208 traveling southbound. Despite their efforts, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Specialist officers are providing support to the man’s family.

The North East Ambulance Service reported dispatching a double-crewed ambulance, two teams from its Hazardous Area Response Team, and a doctor from the Great North Air Ambulance Service to the location shortly before 2:30 a.m.

The A1(M) was closed for several hours while emergency personnel conducted their work, but it has since reopened. Investigators from Durham Constabulary's Serious Collision Investigation Unit have launched an inquiry into the crash and are seeking witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage.
