A man died Saturday afternoon after entering a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park and being attacked by an Amur tiger, South Yorkshire Police confirmed. The incident occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. at the wildlife park located in Doncaster, England.

Emergency services, including two land ambulances, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, and a doctor, responded promptly to reports of the man entering the enclosure. Despite the efforts of medical personnel at the scene, the man sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead. Police said the man’s family has been informed and is receiving support from specialist officers.

The park’s management stated that their emergency response procedures were immediately activated, and emergency services were attending the scene. Yorkshire Wildlife Park was subsequently closed to the public and remained shut the following day as investigations continued. In a statement released on social media, the park emphasized its commitment to the safety and wellbeing of visitors, staff, and animals.

The tiger involved, an Amur tiger — a critically endangered subspecies with just around 500 individuals estimated in the wild — was reported to have remained uninjured and was still in the enclosure following the attack. South Yorkshire Police addressed circulating videos showing the tiger grappling with the man inside the enclosure and asked the public not to share such footage. Authorities also noted there was no broader risk to public safety from the animal.

The tiger enclosure is part of the park’s “Land of the Tigers” attraction, a dedicated two-acre reserve that opened in 2011. The attraction is designed with elevated walkways and fencing intended to separate visitors from the animals.

The circumstances surrounding how the man entered the enclosure remain under investigation. Police and park officials are cooperating to determine the full details of the incident. No additional information about the identity of the man or his motives has been released.
