A man died after a train collided with a van at a level crossing in Burscough, West Lancashire, on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m., authorities reported.

Emergency services responded to the scene where the sole occupant of the van was pronounced dead despite efforts by paramedics. Two passengers aboard the train sustained minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.

Passengers described the impact as severe, with some reporting being evacuated onto the tracks following the collision. Northern, the train operator, confirmed that rail services between Wigan Wallgate and Southport were suspended as a result of the accident, causing disruptions to the local network.
