St Mirren manager Craig McLeish has confirmed that Mikael Mandron will leave the club after three years in Paisley, while midfielder Stevie Mallan is training with the team as he seeks a return. The Saints are currently on a pre-season training camp in Pinatar, Spain, preparing for the upcoming campaign.
Mandron, who was the club’s top scorer in the Premier Sports Cup last season with seven goals, has opted not to renew his contract. McLeish said the French forward has received offers from clubs abroad and must make a financial decision for himself and his family. “We made an offer to him, but we just couldn’t get anywhere near the offers he has already got,” McLeish explained. He also praised Mandron’s contribution, calling him “a great servant,” and expressed regret at his departure.
Meanwhile, Mallan, 30, has been invited to train and travel with the squad as he attempts to secure a contract. The midfielder, a former St Mirren youth player who has since played for Barnsley, Hibernian, Yeni Malatyaspor, Salford City, and most recently St Johnstone, left the Perth club following their Scottish Championship title win. He has already featured in a warm-up match against Hearts and is expected to play against Murcia during the trip. McLeish noted Mallan came into pre-season last year recovering from injury and performed well during the initial week of training this season.
In addition to Mallan, the club is assessing trialists Dylan Reid, a St Mirren academy graduate, and Middlesbrough winger Micah Hamilton, although Hamilton missed the Hearts game due to a minor injury and may feature in upcoming fixtures.
Forward Jonah Ayunga, who joined Saints in 2022 and suffered a ruptured ACL in April, remains out of contract but is expected to be offered a new deal once he recovers. McLeish indicated the club is committed to supporting Ayunga through his rehabilitation in the hope he will be available by the start of the new year. “That should feel like a January signing,” McLeish said, adding that Ayunga has previously returned from a similar injury stronger.
St Mirren’s pre-season camp in Spain has allowed the manager to integrate four new signings while preparing the squad. McLeish praised the quality of the facilities and the productive week of training, emphasizing the importance of the trip for building team cohesion ahead of the new season. The team’s schedule concludes with a match against Murcia on Saturday morning.
