A 51-year-old man from Connecticut died after falling from an upper level at Madison Square Garden during a concert on Saturday night, police said. The victim, identified as Paul Kueker of Niantic, fell from the arena’s third level, known as Section 300, at approximately 9:50 p.m. while attending a performance by the jam band Goose, who were marking their 25th anniversary with a two-night engagement.
Emergency responders arrived following a 911 call and found Kueker unconscious and unresponsive with injuries consistent with a fall from an elevated position. He was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities do not suspect foul play in the incident.
According to Kueker’s mother, Patti Finelli, he had been attending the concert with his wife, Kristen, who did not witness the fall. Finelli said her son had stepped away from their seats to use the restroom and did not return after 10 to 15 minutes, prompting concern. Police eventually located Kristen to inform her of what had happened.
Finelli described her son as a lively and well-liked person who had no known enemies. She noted that he was a devoted father to two children and had recently celebrated his son’s high school graduation just two days before the incident, which occurred the night before Father’s Day. The couple had been at the concert to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary, which was approaching on Tuesday.
Madison Square Garden, located in Midtown Manhattan and widely regarded as a premier event venue, released a statement expressing sadness over the tragedy while awaiting the official police report. The venue has recently hosted high-profile events, including NBA Finals games attended by prominent figures.
Goose also issued a statement expressing their heartbreak and extending sympathies to all affected by the incident. The band is based in Connecticut and was performing the second night of their anniversary concerts at the arena when the fatal accident occurred. The investigation into the circumstances of the fall is ongoing.
