A man in St Albans attempted to evade arrest by concealing himself beneath a shopping bag during a police search, authorities said. Hertfordshire Constabulary released footage of the incident, which took place at a residential address, showing officers inspecting the property before uncovering the individual hiding under an upturned reusable shopping bag placed on a bed.

According to the police, the man was found with the rest of his body covered by a duvet, effectively attempting to blend into the bedding. He was reportedly wanted on charges related to shoplifting. Officers described the method as an unusual tactic, adding it to a list of inventive ways people have tried to avoid detention.

The force did not provide further details about the identity of the suspect or the circumstances leading to the police visit.
