A 36-year-old man has been remanded in custody following allegations that he made false bomb threats on two separate trains in England over the weekend.

The incidents began on the morning of Friday, September 18, when the man, identified as Aaron Russell and described as having no fixed address, reportedly activated the alarm on a train traveling from Waterbeach to Cambridge North. He allegedly claimed that a bomb was on board, prompting passengers to evacuate the train upon its arrival at Cambridge North station. Staff were informed of the threat, and Russell was arrested on suspicion of communicating a bomb hoax before being released on bail pending further investigation.

Less than 24 hours later, shortly after midnight on September 19, authorities say Russell made a similar claim on a train in Redhill, Surrey. According to British Transport Police (BTP), the train was stopped at Earlswood station where it was evacuated and thoroughly searched; no suspicious items were found. Russell was arrested again in connection with this second incident and subsequently charged.

He appeared at Guildford Magistrates’ Court and has been remanded in custody, with a further hearing scheduled for Monday, October 12.

British Transport Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone who may have overheard the alleged statements during either event to come forward.
