A 32-year-old man has been sentenced to six months in prison for reckless driving after overtaking a police vehicle at speeds exceeding 115 mph while a child was seated beside him. Johnpaul Allen of Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire, was also driving barefoot, wearing flip-flops, during the incident on May 25.

Dashcam footage captured Allen speeding in a Range Rover Sport on the A60 between Worksop and Cuckney, Nottinghamshire, at approximately 9:30 p.m. Police officers, driving in an unmarked car at speeds over 100 mph to keep up, observed Allen narrowly avoiding another vehicle as he passed. He was recorded reaching speeds of up to 75 mph in a 30 mph zone during the pursuit.

Upon being stopped, Allen admitted to lacking a valid driving licence and acknowledged having consumed “one or two” alcoholic drinks prior to the incident. He subsequently pleaded guilty to charges of dangerous driving at Nottingham Crown Court.

In addition to the custodial sentence, Allen received a driving ban that will last for 16 months. The court’s decision reflects the serious nature of the offence, particularly given the risk posed to the child passenger and other road users.
