Craig Taylor has been sentenced to 28 days in jail and banned from owning animals for five years after pleading guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to his dog, a shar pei-mixed breed named Tank. The case was heard at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

Tank was reported to the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Scottish SPCA) in June 2025 after a member of the public raised concerns about the dog’s poor condition. Inspectors found Tank to be underweight and suffering from an untreated flea infestation, alongside a painful skin disease that had not received veterinary treatment.

Following intervention by the Scottish SPCA, Tank was prescribed medical treatment and subsequently transferred to the organization’s Highlands and Islands centre for care. In October, the dog was rehomed.

Craig Taylor, who resides in Aberdeen, faced legal action after neglecting his pet’s health needs, leading to the court's decision to impose a custodial sentence and a five-year animal ownership ban. The sentence underscores the legal consequences of failing to provide necessary veterinary care to animals under one's responsibility.
