A man in his 60s died after a light aircraft crashed at a remote airstrip in northwest New South Wales on Wednesday afternoon. Emergency services were alerted shortly after 1:30 p.m. following reports of the crash at Wanaaring, approximately 190 kilometers northwest of Bourke.

Despite the rapid response from multiple agencies—including police, Fire and Rescue NSW, the Rural Fire Service, the State Emergency Service, and NSW Ambulance paramedics—the pilot was found deceased at the scene. The exact circumstances leading to the accident remain unknown, as authorities continue to investigate.

A crime scene was established at the airstrip, with specialist police officers assigned to examine the site as part of the ongoing investigation. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has also commenced its inquiry into the crash to determine potential causes.

Wanaaring is a remote town located in the far northwest of New South Wales, where geographic isolation can complicate emergency response efforts. Authorities are preparing a report for the coroner to support further examination of the incident and any underlying factors.

At this stage, no additional details about the pilot’s identity or the nature of the flight have been released. Investigators continue to gather evidence to establish what led to the fatal event.
