A 21-year-old man from South Bend, Indiana, was fatally shot early Saturday near Ford City Mall on Chicago’s Southwest Side. Martin Isaaccantu Murillo was outside on the 7600 block of South Cicero Avenue at approximately 2:50 a.m. when he was approached by an assailant who fired multiple shots, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Murillo sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. He was pronounced dead there at 9:57 a.m., officials confirmed. The suspect fled the scene in a red SUV, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Ford City Mall, located near the site of the shooting, is scheduled to close later this month. A Cook County judge recently ordered the mall’s shutdown following complaints from city officials, who described the property’s deteriorating condition as posing an “imminent danger” to tenants and shoppers.

Authorities have not released further details about a motive or potential suspects in the incident. Police continue to seek information regarding the shooting as part of their investigation.
