A 28-year-old man was shot in the leg while walking through Harlem Thursday evening, police reported. The incident occurred around 6:19 p.m. on Park Avenue near East 127th Street. Authorities said the victim was struck in the right leg when an assailant opened fire.
According to law enforcement sources, the victim told police he was walking when he was unexpectedly shot. A witness on the scene described seeing three individuals, all dressed in black hoodies and carrying backpacks, approach the victim and then fire at close range. The witness reported hearing at least five gunshots, which sounded similar to fireworks, before the suspects fled down the block.
Following the shooting, the victim was seen hopping on one leg, moving southbound on Park Avenue. Emergency medical personnel transported him to Harlem Hospital, where he is expected to recover.
Bloodstains and shoeprints were visible on the pavement near the site of the shooting. Police have not made any arrests in connection with the case. Residents expressed concern over the frequency of violent incidents in the city.
