A man suspected of fatally shooting a Culver CityBus driver was taken into custody on Friday, Los Angeles police reported. The incident occurred Thursday evening near the intersection of South Centinela and Mitchell avenues in the Mar Vista neighborhood.
The victim, a man in his 40s whose name has not been publicly released, was confirmed to be a driver for Culver CityBus. Authorities have refrained from providing additional details about the victim’s identity. Culver City Vice Mayor Bubba Fish confirmed the victim’s occupation in correspondence with reporters.
Los Angeles Police Officer Tony Im stated that officers had apprehended a suspect believed to be responsible for the shooting but declined to provide further information, saying more details would be disclosed later. Detectives from the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the case.
The suspect, described as a white male seen fleeing on a bicycle, remained at large until the reported arrest on Friday. No motive has been released by authorities at this time.
Culver City Mayor Freddy Puza expressed condolences in a statement sent to news outlets late Thursday, characterizing the victim as a "beloved member" of the city team whose loss would be deeply felt throughout the community. Puza described the incident as a “senseless act of violence.”
Officials have not disclosed a timeline for upcoming updates or further details on the suspect or proceedings related to the shooting.
