A man from Oldham, Greater Manchester, has been awarded £15,745 in damages and legal costs after slipping on a puddle inside a toilet at a motorway service area. Jonathan Ciantar fell in the men’s restroom at Keele Services on the M6 in Staffordshire in November 2023. The facility is operated by Welcome Break.

Following the fall, Ciantar required physiotherapy treatment due to injuries sustained from the slip. The case was heard at Manchester County Court, where the judge ruled in favor of Ciantar. He was awarded £11,825 in damages, with Welcome Break also ordered to cover £3,920 of his legal expenses.

The incident highlights concerns about maintenance and safety standards within motorway service station facilities. The services operator did not provide further comment on the ruling.
