Manchester City has secured the signing of goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli, who will return to the club after a nine-year absence. The 34-year-old Argentine, currently with Marseille, has joined the Premier League club in a deal reportedly worth up to £1.7 million.

Rulli initially joined Manchester City in 2016 but did not make any first-team appearances before being loaned to Real Sociedad. The Spanish club eventually made the transfer permanent, and since then, Rulli has accumulated experience with Montpellier, Ajax, and Villarreal.

The move comes as City’s new head coach, Enzo Maresca, seeks to strengthen the squad’s goalkeeper options following the departure of James Trafford, who was sold to Leeds United. Maresca acknowledged the challenges players face when limited playing time affects their careers, noting, “There are players like James that didn’t play more games. It’s normal they are sad.”

Rulli’s return is expected to provide reliable backup support at the Etihad Stadium as Manchester City prepares for the upcoming season.
