Manchester United has faced criticism from several supporter groups following the club’s recent decision to restrict certain fans’ online season-ticket accounts. The move is part of the club’s effort to combat the illegal resale of tickets, but it has drawn backlash from fans and organisations representing supporters, including the Manchester United Supporters Trust (Must), The 1958, and The Red Army.

The groups expressed concern that the club’s restrictions may unfairly penalize loyal fans. In a joint statement, they acknowledged the need to address professional ticket touting and automated purchasing practices used to exploit genuine supporters financially. However, they emphasized that any measures taken must be "fair, proportionate and transparent."

The statement also highlighted fears that some longstanding season-ticket holders—many of whom have supported the club through multiple generations—could be wrongfully targeted. They called for clear evidence, due process, and meaningful opportunities for fans to respond to any allegations before facing account restrictions or ticket revocations.

Manchester United’s initiative aims to ensure that tickets remain accessible to genuine supporters and to curb the secondary market profiteering, which has been a persistent issue in football. Nevertheless, the tension between enforcing stricter ticketing controls and maintaining positive relations with loyal fans remains a challenge for the club moving forward.
