Manchester United’s women’s team secured their fourth consecutive victory across all competitions with a 1-0 win over Liverpool at the Progress with Unity Stadium. The result moves United to sixth place in the Women’s Super League (WSL).
The decisive moment came when Liverpool goalkeeper Khiara Keating mishandled a pass out from the back, allowing Manchester United forward Julia Zigiotti Olme to intercept and score with a composed chip over the goalkeeper. Despite sustained pressure from Liverpool in the closing stages, United held firm to secure the three points.
This match marked Manchester United Women’s 250th game since the team’s establishment in 2018. The club endured a challenging start to the season under new head coach Eva Olid, including a heavy 5-0 defeat to Chelsea in their previous league fixture. However, the team has since significantly improved, stringing together four consecutive wins in all competitions.
Reflecting on the victory, Zigiotti Olme emphasized the need for continued improvement, particularly in the final third of the pitch. “We have to be better in the final third, we create [but the] last pass and finishing needs to be better — but that will come,” she said. She also highlighted the importance of teamwork and hard work in training to build on recent progress: “We start to click in a lot of things, fight for each other, hard work. We need to work hard to improve and in possession.”
The win over Liverpool sustains Manchester United’s upward trajectory in the WSL as the club aims to solidify its position in the league standings and build momentum for the remainder of the season.
