Sapporo is commemorating 150 years of brewing heritage with the release of limited-edition beer cans featuring artwork inspired by Japanese manga. The campaign, managed by Carlsberg Malaysia, highlights the brand’s legacy of craftsmanship, quality, and mastery dating back to 1876.

The special edition cans were created in collaboration with Japanese manga artist Hiroki Ishizawa. The artwork prominently features Seibei Nakagawa, the founder of Sapporo, and reflects the precision and discipline associated with traditional Japanese craftsmanship. The manga-inspired illustrations aim to translate Sapporo’s century-and-a-half history into a visual narrative that combines cultural artistry with the brand’s brewing expertise.

Carlsberg Malaysia managing director Stefano Clini said the campaign aligns with the growing demand among Malaysian consumers for premium brands that offer meaningful stories and authentic experiences. He added that the limited-edition cans honor Sapporo’s position as Japan’s first beer while appealing to a discerning audience interested in both heritage and quality.

In addition to the collectible cans, the anniversary celebration includes an interactive online experience. Through Sapporo’s website, consumers can upload their photos and see themselves reimagined as manga characters styled in traditional Japanese illustration techniques. This digital engagement extends the brand’s storytelling into a personalized format.

The campaign also features a promotional pack containing eight of the limited-edition cans alongside an exclusive Sapporo 150th anniversary glass. The design of the glass draws inspiration from Mount Yotei in Hokkaido, the region where Sapporo Premium Beer was originally brewed. These elements collectively offer consumers a multi-sensory tribute to Japan’s brewing tradition.

By combining collectible packaging, digital experiences, and commemorative merchandise, Sapporo’s 150th anniversary campaign seeks to celebrate its heritage while introducing new ways for consumers to connect with the brand’s history and craftsmanship.
