Alcanyiz, Spain – Marc Marquez delivered a commanding performance at the Aragon MotoGP on Sunday, securing a victory that significantly boosted his chances in the championship race. The seven-time MotoGP champion crossed the finish line first, with Pedro Acosta claiming second place and Marco Bezzecchi finishing third.

Marquez, a home favorite at the MotorLand circuit where he has a history of success, moved up to second place in the overall standings. He trails leader Jorge Martin by 19 points, while Bezzecchi slipped to third, 24 points behind Martin. This win marks Marquez’s fourth of the season, all secured within the past six races, signaling a strong resurgence in his bid for the title. It also extended Ducati’s impressive run at Aragon, bringing their tally to six victories in six races across sprints and Grand Prix events.

After the race, Marquez described his strategy once he took the lead as being focused on increasing pressure and opening a gap to ensure a clear victory. He finished 1.754 seconds ahead of the field. The race began with Aprilia riders Bezzecchi and Martin taking early control, occupying first and second positions respectively. However, Marquez quickly reclaimed second place from Martin after a challenging start, which he attributed to a “huge mistake” of neglecting to deactivate his rear ride height device after Turn 1.

Bezzecchi managed to build a small lead of eight-tenths of a second but Marquez overtook him on the sixth lap at Turn 15. The two riders made contact while exiting the corner, allowing KTM’s Acosta to pass and secure second place. Marquez’s brother, Alex Marquez, finished just behind in fourth place, followed by Martin in fifth. Fermin Aldeguer and Fabio Di Giannantonio, fourth in the championship standings, completed the top seven positions.

The result tightens the battle at the top of the MotoGP standings as the season approaches its latter stages, with Marquez’s return to form adding fresh intrigue to the title chase.
