Marcus Rashford has issued a farewell message to Barcelona as he prepares to return to Manchester United following his loan spell at the Spanish club.

The England forward spent the 2023-24 season at Barcelona, where he contributed 14 goals and 14 assists, playing a key role in the Catalan side’s successful La Liga campaign. Despite his contributions, Barcelona opted not to exercise the £26 million option to make his transfer permanent. Instead, the club signed Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon for a reported £70 million.

Rashford shared a message on social media alongside images of his No. 14 shirt and action shots at Barcelona. He expressed gratitude toward the club, noting that his time there was “a positive and unforgettable experience.” He added that he cherished the moments spent with the team and wished the club and its supporters continued success, concluding with the phrase, “Visca Barca!”

With his loan concluded, Rashford will return to Manchester United, where he remains under contract until June 2028, earning a reported weekly salary of £315,000. Following his participation in England’s run to the World Cup semi-finals, the 28-year-old striker is currently on a break, and it is unclear whether he will join United’s pre-season training camp in Ireland next month.

Manchester United had initially set a purchase price of around £40 million for Rashford, but have found it challenging to attract offers above the £26 million option fee set during the loan deal. While there has been reported interest from Roma, Rashford is understood to have no intention of moving to the Italian club.

As Rashford returns to Old Trafford, the club and player will look to determine his role in the upcoming season, amid ongoing speculation over his future.
