Marla Kether, known for her role as bassist in Little Simz’s live performances, is increasingly establishing herself as a producer, DJ, and artist. Recognized for her distinct style and skillful playing, Kether has been gaining attention beyond her session work through a series of new EPs that explore vibrant Afro-Latin musical fusions.

Her upcoming release, titled *Luso*, is scheduled for October 16 through the Strut label. The project showcases an innovative blend of genres, including a notable track called "Blessing," which merges batida and grime styles alongside rapper Mez. Other highlights include "Libera," a samba-house collaboration with the Brazilian duo Margaridas, and "Reverse," a bossa nova-inflected number featuring jazz singer Sofia Grant.

Born in London to Congolese parents, Kether relocated to Bristol to attend university, where she immersed herself in the local music scene. Her entry into professional music came when members of the UK jazz collective Ezra Collective, whom she invited to a jam session, recognized her talent and introduced her to vocalist Yazmin Lacey. This connection led to further opportunities to work with artists such as Obongjayar and Loyle Carner.

In recognition of her growing influence behind the scenes, Kether was honored with the Producer of the Year award in 2024 by Youth Music, a grassroots charity supporting emerging talent. Alongside her solo work, she has performed with her own band as an opening act for British funk group Cymande and Afrobeat pioneer Femi Kuti. At the same time, she regularly hosts Kilengi Dance Party events, where she DJs high-energy baile funk and kuduro, demonstrating her versatility across live and club settings.

Kether’s range and evolving musical identity position her as a noteworthy figure in contemporary music, seamlessly fusing African and Latin rhythms with UK urban influences. She is set to perform at Lower Third in London on November 9, continuing to build momentum as a multifaceted artist and producer.
