Marie Curie, the UK-based end-of-life care charity, raised more than £2.3 million as the official charity partner of this year’s London Marathon, surpassing its initial target of £2 million. The fundraising effort was bolstered by nearly 750 participants who ran for the organization during the event held in April.

Matthew Reed, chief executive of Marie Curie, expressed gratitude for the support, highlighting the significant impact the funds will have on the charity’s mission of providing care and support for people with terminal illnesses and their families.

Applications to take part in the 2027 London Marathon were announced yesterday, with the event expanding to a two-day format for the upcoming race. This change will allow up to 100,000 runners to participate, a significant increase from previous years. The expansion aims to accommodate growing interest and maintain the event’s status as one of the world’s largest marathon races.
