Marine Fauthoux has emerged as a significant contributor for the New York Liberty following her WNBA debut two months ago, marking a notable turnaround in the team’s recent performance. The 25-year-old French guard, drafted by the Liberty more than five years ago, has shown strong form since her return to regular play in mid-July after missing substantial time due to a left ACL injury last year.
Fauthoux’s increased presence on the court coincides with a shift in the Liberty’s dynamics, as the team has won five of six games since her insertion into the rotation. Over this span, the Liberty improved their record to 18-13, with Fauthoux providing steady contributions off the bench. She now averages 18 minutes per game, scoring 6.1 points, securing 3.1 rebounds, and distributing 2.3 assists while shooting 44.8 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from beyond the arc.
In recent outings, Fauthoux achieved several career milestones, including a five-assist performance against the Seattle Storm and a career-high 13 points in a win in Los Angeles. She also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in an overtime victory over Dallas. Head coach Chris DeMarco has praised her high competitive level and defensive acumen, emphasizing her ability to make impactful plays beyond traditional statistics, such as effective pick-and-roll execution, court vision, and positional defense.
Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu highlighted Fauthoux’s poise and adaptability, noting her quick transition to the WNBA level despite limited playing time earlier in the season. “She’s just so poised... she’s able to come in, make play after play, get deflections, push the ball, make great passes and reads, and make big shots when needed,” Ionescu said.
Fauthoux currently plays under a developmental contract and is allowed two more games before the Liberty must decide whether to upgrade her to a standard contract, which would require waiving another player, potentially Betnijah Laney-Hamilton or rookie Raquel Carrera. Additionally, Fauthoux may miss up to four games later this month to join the French national team’s training camp ahead of the FIBA Women’s World Cup.
Despite these roster considerations, DeMarco expressed confidence in Fauthoux’s continued role, underscoring her intangible contributions and the positive effect she has on the team’s overall performance. As the Liberty approach the tail end of the regular season, Fauthoux’s development could be a key factor in their playoff positioning and future prospects.
