Mark Hughes, the former Manchester United striker, led the pallbearers at the funeral of his son, Alex Hughes, who passed away suddenly on June 19 at the age of 38. The service was held at St Peter’s Church in Prestbury, Cheshire, and was attended by hundreds of mourners, including prominent football figures such as Sir Alex Ferguson, Bryan Robson, and Ryan Giggs.

Alex Hughes, a married father of two, worked in player recruitment, following in his father’s footsteps within the football industry. During the service, David Pollock, Alex’s father-in-law, delivered a eulogy in which he shared a touching memory involving his grandsons. Pollock recalled how the boys had begun pointing to the sky after scoring goals, a gesture inspired by their father. He comforted them by saying their father would always be watching over them in spirit as they pursued their passions.

The gathered mourners reflected on Alex Hughes’s contributions to football both on and off the field, and the profound impact of his sudden loss was evident within the community.
