Mark Labbett, known as “The Beast” on the quiz show The Chase, has shared insights into his rigorous preparation routine, which involves up to 10 hours of daily study. The 60-year-old quizmaster approaches his work as a form of entertainment, dedicating time to watching football matches, television series, and Marvel films as a way to absorb trivia.

Labbett explained that his learning extends beyond traditional study sessions. Even while driving, he said he makes mental notes of details such as motorways, which he later uses to his advantage during quizzes. He emphasized that his work often involves consuming current popular culture and sporting events, saying, “Work can be sitting on the couch watching a Marvel film. Work can be me watching God knows how many games of football. Whatever the biggest new TV shows are, that’s work. I’m always learning.”

Despite the claim of a 10-hour daily preparation schedule, Labbett later admitted that his revision time is closer to an hour a day, as much of the content he studies overlaps with his personal viewing habits. Beyond his television and sports-based research, Labbett also enjoys participating in pub quizzes at his local venue. However, he humorously disclosed a personal rule: he is not allowed to win when playing with friends.
