Martin and Roman Kemp are set to star in a new three-part television series documenting their road trip across Ireland, showcasing their strong father-son relationship and exploring the country’s rich mythology. The series premieres on Channel 4 on August 10 at 8 p.m.

The program follows the duo as they travel across Ireland, blending visits to historical sites with an examination of local legends and folklore. Martin Kemp, 64, who lived in Dublin during his time with the band Spandau Ballet, expresses a fascination with the more fantastical elements of Irish history, including ghost stories and myths. Roman, 33, approaching the trip with a more skeptical eye, appreciates the tangible aspects of the country’s heritage. Together, they explore stories such as that of a purported vampire buried upside down beneath a rock.

The journey also serves as an opportunity for the pair to deepen their familial bond away from everyday life. Roman Kemp, a television and radio presenter who has been open about his struggles with mental health, describes the experience as a chance to reconnect with his father in a meaningful way. Despite past misconceptions, Roman emphasized that he no longer lives at home, stating that his parents wanted him to move out at 18. However, participation in shows like Celebrity Gogglebox has allowed him dedicated time with his family, which he values greatly.

Martin Kemp confirms that while producers have approached him about shows centered on living at home, he clarifies that he and Roman live separately and that their family dynamics are positive and supportive. The pair’s candid and open communication style is central to their relationship and the series. Roman highlights the importance of honest conversations within his family, including with his mother Shirlie, known from the pop duo Pepsi and Shirlie, and his sister. Martin underscores the role of mutual respect as the foundation that allows for their candid interactions.

Throughout the series, the Kemps also make frequent phone calls to Shirlie, reflecting the closeness of the entire family. Martin describes the trip as “a boys’ week around Ireland,” focused on mutual discovery and connection.

Roman praises the Irish people and the country’s unique blend of history and mythology, noting its striking natural beauty. The new show will offer viewers insight into both Irish culture and the evolving relationship between father and son as they navigate the roads and stories of Ireland together.
