Mark Chapman, a presenter on the BBC’s Match of the Day, has been confirmed to be in a relationship with his co-host Kelly Cates. The developments come after Chapman, 52, ended a three-year relationship with estate agent Clere Collier in April. Collier, who is based in Dubai, reportedly confronted Chapman over suspicions regarding his closeness with Cates, 51, who joined Match of the Day last year alongside Chapman and Gabby Logan.

Sources close to the former couple have indicated that Chapman acknowledged his relationship with Cates but maintained that there was no overlap between the two relationships. Chapman denied any infidelity, asserting that he had been single when he began spending time with Cates. However, this explanation did not fully convince Collier, who regularly traveled to the UK to see Chapman and had previously been pictured house-hunting with him.

An associate described the split between Chapman and Collier as sudden and unexpected, noting that the pair had been making plans for the future prior to their breakup. Although they remained in contact for some time afterward, Collier grew increasingly uneasy once she realized the growing bond between Chapman and Cates. The situation reportedly ended with Collier accusing Chapman of wrongdoing, but he insisted on his fidelity throughout.

Chapman, one of the BBC’s highest-paid broadcasters with an annual salary in the range of £335,000 to £340,000, was appointed as a Match of the Day host in 2025. In July 2026, he and Cates appeared together on the celebrity edition of Gogglebox, further underscoring their professional partnership.

Cates, daughter of former Scotland and Liverpool player Kenny Dalglish, separated from her husband, TV producer Tom, in 2021. The couple shares two children. Reflecting on her working relationship with Chapman and Logan, Cates described their dynamic as “genuinely really exciting,” expressing enthusiasm for the team environment.

Chapman’s personal life has been marked by tragedy with the death of his wife Sara in 2020 after a battle with cancer. Sara, 44 at the time of her passing, left behind Chapman and their three children. Following her death, Chapman continued to build his career in sports broadcasting, gaining prominence across BBC Radio 5 Live and various presenting roles.

The situation highlights the complex interplay between personal relationships and public careers for prominent media figures, with all involved opting for a degree of privacy amid the unfolding circumstances.
