Matheus Cunha has called on Manchester United to assert greater control over the course of their season after the club’s recent struggles in the Premier League. United’s 1-1 draw against Fulham on Sunday left them level on points with their worst start to a Premier League campaign in 12 years, sitting 12th in the table and without a victory in their last three matches.

Cunha, who scored a late equalizer in the 89th minute against 19th-placed Fulham to prevent a third consecutive loss, acknowledged the difficulties the team has faced but remained optimistic about their prospects. The Brazil international pointed to United’s turnaround under former manager Michael Carrick last season as evidence the club can still achieve success this campaign. "Last season was my first here, and maybe it was crazier than this one," Cunha said. "There was a lot of noise around us, a season without Champions League. Some people were saying ‘Oh, United will go to the Championship’. And then we finished third. We still have a lot of trust, all the belief."

The match against Fulham only shifted momentum late in the game, following an unusual own goal in the 63rd minute involving Lisandro Martinez and Fulham goalkeeper Senne Lammens. Cunha emphasized the importance of the team’s resilience during such unpredictable moments. “This energy to act, after some crazy moments, is the spirit of the team — and then we do well,” he said.

Despite not being called up by Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti for the most recent international squad, Cunha expressed eagerness for the upcoming fixtures following the current three-week international break. "I’m so anxious to play the next one," he said. "Next month could be big. We can win more, we can show how we work for the shirt."

As Manchester United prepares to resume their campaign, Cunha’s message underscores a focus on maintaining composure and capitalizing on opportunities amid a challenging start to the season.
