Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) has completed the issuance of RM2.5 billion in additional tier 1 (AT1) sukuk mudharabah under its existing sukuk programme, the banking group announced in a filing with Bursa Malaysia.

The perpetual sukuk consist of three series with nominal values of RM750 million, RM1.1 billion, and RM650 million, respectively. The RM750 million tranche offers a fixed distribution rate of 4.85% per annum until its first call date on September 29, 2031. The RM1.1 billion tranche carries a fixed rate of 5.11% until its first call date on September 28, 2033, while the RM650 million tranche provides a fixed rate of 5.15% per annum until its first call date on September 26, 2036.

Maybank stated that the proceeds from the sukuk issuance will be deployed for Shariah-compliant purposes. This includes investment in both ringgit- and foreign currency-denominated Islamic financial instruments that have received approval from the Shariah advisory councils of Bank Negara Malaysia or the Securities Commission.

The issuance forms part of Maybank’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its capital position while adhering to Islamic finance principles.
