Kylian Mbappé is reportedly in good condition following a racially charged exchange with Paraguayan politician Celeste Amarilla after France’s 1-0 victory over Paraguay in the Round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup. France coach Didier Deschamps confirmed the forward’s well-being ahead of the team’s next match on Thursday.

“Kylian is OK,” Deschamps said. “He’s a very strong guy mentally and physically. He’s focused on tomorrow’s game.” The coach emphasized that he preferred not to dwell on the incident, underscoring Mbappé’s readiness alongside his teammates.

The dispute began when Amarilla, a senator from Paraguay’s Liberal Radical Party, made remarks deemed racist following the match. In response, Mbappé publicly condemned her on social media, labeling her a “despicable woman and unworthy of your position.” He criticized her for overshadowing the achievements of the Paraguayan team and accused her of spreading hatred and racism globally.

Amarilla then issued an open letter threatening legal action against Mbappé, citing gender-based violence claims if he did not issue an apology. Meanwhile, Paris prosecutors have launched an investigation into Amarilla for potential aggravated public assault and incitement to hatred or violence.

The Paraguayan government distanced itself from Amarilla’s remarks, issuing a statement condemning and rejecting her comments. The French Football Federation also denounced the politician’s language as “criminal and reprehensible,” which contributed to the initiation of the criminal probe.

In other developments, Deschamps confirmed that France’s appeal of a yellow card issued to Michael Olise was unsuccessful. The appeal followed a controversial suspension suspension related to Folarin Balogun’s red card.

Additionally, England midfielder Jordan Henderson announced via Instagram that he recently underwent surgery in Kansas City to treat a broken arm sustained during the tournament.
