Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has reduced the approval timeframe for high-impact investment projects from 30 days to 25 days as part of its Speed Selangor@MBPJ initiative. The first project to benefit from this expedited process is NXP Malaysia Sdn Bhd, which is expanding its smart manufacturing facility in the Sungai Way Free Industrial Zone.

Mayor Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi explained that the initiative seeks to streamline the approval process to attract and facilitate more investments. Under the new system, documentation requirements that had previously caused delays have been refined, and a dedicated technical team has been established to provide assistance to applicants throughout the approval process.

NXP Malaysia’s development involves the construction of a connecting bridge between its campuses, aimed at enhancing the operational efficiency of the facility. The expansion is expected to reinforce Malaysia’s position in the global semiconductor supply chain and create approximately 500 high-value job opportunities.

Additionally, MBPJ has introduced a provision allowing temporary business licenses to be issued once construction reaches 80% completion. This measure permits earlier testing of machinery and equipment prior to full project completion. The full business license, however, will be granted within 24 hours after all construction work is finished and compliance documents are submitted.

These measures reflect MBPJ’s focus on fostering a more conducive environment for investment and industrial growth by reducing bureaucratic hurdles and encouraging timely project implementation.
