Qatar University (QU), the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), and Scale AI have entered into a partnership to develop the National Co-Advisor Platform, an artificial intelligence-driven system aimed at improving academic advising and student support at QU. The agreement was signed to advance the university’s efforts to provide more accessible, personalised, and efficient academic guidance through a unified digital platform.

The platform integrates an AI-powered virtual assistant with advanced analytics to support both students and academic advisors. It offers students around-the-clock access to customised information on academic program requirements, university regulations, course registration criteria, deadlines, and progress tracking toward graduation. For academic advisors, the system automates administrative duties such as preparing for advising sessions, documenting outcomes, and monitoring follow-up actions, thereby freeing advisors to focus more on personalised interactions and proactive engagement with students.

A key feature of the platform is its early intervention capability. By analysing academic data, it can identify students who may be at risk of academic challenges and provide advisors with priority alerts and recommended actions to support those students. The platform also aims to reduce errors in course registration that could negatively impact academic progress or delay graduation. Additionally, it will offer university leadership comprehensive analytics for monitoring overall academic progress and facilitating data-driven decision-making.

The platform will be integrated with QU’s existing databases to provide a seamless digital workspace for advisors, while maintaining human oversight over administrative processes and decisions.

Dr. Shimaa Ali al-Quradaghi, Associate Vice-President for Student Success and Development at QU’s Student Affairs, emphasized the strategic nature of the collaboration. She stated that the initiative reflects a commitment to leveraging AI and modern technology to enhance the student experience and improve academic outcomes. “This platform will enable more proactive and personalised academic guidance,” she commented, “helping to identify student needs early and support informed decision-making to strengthen their path toward degree completion.”

Emal al-Kuwari, Director of Digital Innovation at MCIT, highlighted the government’s role in turning AI potential into practical applications. He noted that the partnership exemplifies efforts to promote responsible AI adoption by combining government, academic, and industry strengths. “The National Co-Advisor Platform is a concrete example of how AI can enhance service efficiency and personalisation, while ensuring human judgment remains central,” he said.

Amr Samir, Qatar Country Lead at Scale AI, noted that the platform development followed extensive consultations with Qatar University’s advisors, faculty, and staff. He described the initiative as aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030, aimed at delivering technology solutions that benefit both students and advisors under sustained human supervision.

This collaboration supports Qatar University’s Strategy 2023-2027, with its emphasis on student-centric services and digital transformation, and aligns with broader national priorities outlined in the Third Qatar National Development Strategy, particularly the goal of developing a highly skilled and productive workforce.
