Qatar is set to host two significant international telecommunications events in November 2026, underscoring its expanding influence in the global digital landscape. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), in collaboration with the GSMA, will oversee the second edition of MWC26 Doha from November 8 to 10 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre. Concurrently, the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) will host the International Telecommunication Union Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-26) at the same venue, running from November 9 to 27.
The simultaneous staging of MWC26 Doha and PP-26 marks an innovative approach that blends technological innovation with policy discourse on one platform. This alignment aims to facilitate direct engagement between delegates formulating global telecommunications policies and industry representatives showcasing the latest advancements in technology. The events are expected to enhance collaboration among governments, regulators, businesses, and experts, fostering knowledge exchange to accelerate digital transformation and support initiatives such as the Digital Agenda 2030.
MCIT Minister His Excellency Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai emphasized the significance of hosting both events together, stating that it reflects Qatar’s growing role in shaping global connectivity and telecom policy. He highlighted that the dual hosting aligns with the country’s long-term objectives under the Digital Agenda 2030 and Qatar National Vision 2030, contributing to the development of a vibrant digital economy and sustainable digital society.
The CRA, under the leadership of President Engineer Ahmad bin Abdulla Al Muslemani, is spearheading preparations for PP-26, which will bring together Member States and international organizations to discuss and determine key directions for the telecommunications sector worldwide. Al Muslemani noted that the events demonstrate Qatar’s commitment to creating an advanced regulatory environment conducive to digital transformation and fostering a more inclusive, sustainable global digital ecosystem.
Vivek Badrinath, director-general of the GSMA, remarked on the success of the inaugural MWC Doha the previous year, describing it as a testament to Qatar’s strong digital ambitions. He underlined that hosting MWC26 alongside the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference offers a unique opportunity to unite policymakers and industry leaders from around the world in a single location, facilitating meaningful dialogue and collaboration.
By combining high-level policy discussions with technology exhibitions, Qatar aims to position itself as a central hub for global digital innovation and regulatory development, further strengthening its role on the international telecommunications stage.
