Rising actor Mckenna Grace, known for her roles in films such as *Gifted* (2017), *Annabelle Comes Home* (2019), and *Ghostbusters: Afterlife* (2021), has openly shared her longstanding admiration for *The Hunger Games* franchise. Now 20 years old, Grace grew up deeply connected to Suzanne Collins’ dystopian series, which began with the 2008 novel and was adapted into a popular film series starting in 2012, starring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen.

Grace recalls how discovering the story as a middle schooler made a significant impression on her. She fondly remembers playing Nerf wars with her family, wielding a bow and arrow to emulate Katniss, and describes herself as a dedicated fan of both the books and movies. Having made her professional acting debut in 2013, she cites Lawrence’s performance as a major inspiration, calling it one of her favorite and most influential roles.

Her connection to the franchise continues with her role in the upcoming film *The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping*, set 24 years before the original trilogy. The story centers on Haymitch Abernathy, now portrayed by Australian actor Joseph Zada, during the 50th Hunger Games event. Grace plays Maysilee Donner, a fellow contestant from the impoverished District 12. The characters develop from mutual distrust into a strong familial bond amid the brutal competition.

Grace, who gained attention with an Emmy-nominated role in the fourth season of *The Handmaid’s Tale*, says she does not specifically pursue dystopian or dark roles but appreciates dramatic characters that allow her to explore complex themes. She believes that Collins’ writing remains relevant, reflecting ongoing societal issues that resonate with contemporary audiences.

Filming took place in Spain, where Grace and Zada shared living arrangements and formed a close working relationship. Grace praised Zada as a highly talented actor and spoke enthusiastically about their upcoming promotional visit to Sydney. During the trip, Zada plans to introduce Grace to his home and local culture, prompting her curiosity about Australian attractions such as the Scooby-Doo roller coaster.

In addition to acting, Grace maintains a parallel career as a singer-songwriter. With over 60 screen credits, she has also released two EPs and several singles, including contributions to the soundtrack of this year’s *Scream 7*. She describes songwriting as a personal outlet distinct from acting, often drawing inspiration from her experiences on set. For *Sunrise On The Reaping*, the role of Maysilee prompted several new compositions.

*The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping* is scheduled for release in theaters on November 19.
