Yitzhak Bendahan, a veteran paramedic with Magen David Adom (MDA), delivered his own daughter inside an ambulance en route to the hospital last month, officials recently reported. The incident occurred near the Bendahans’ home in Beit Shemesh as they were traveling to Hadassah-University Medical Center in Jerusalem’s Ein Kerem neighborhood.

Bendahan’s wife, Yael, was in advanced labor when they set off in an MDA ambulance that Bendahan had parked nearby. During the drive, her contractions intensified and came in rapid succession, prompting the couple to realize that the hospital could not be reached in time for the birth.

At that point, Bendahan pulled the ambulance over and assisted with the delivery, bringing a healthy baby girl into the world. The couple said they were unaware of the baby’s sex beforehand, adding to the excitement of the moment.

“As an MDA paramedic, I’ve delivered quite a few babies over the years, but I’d never experienced anything like this,” Bendahan said. He serves as a first responder to emergencies across the Jerusalem area.

Bendahan described the experience as deeply memorable, noting the unique privilege of delivering his own child with his hands. Both he and his wife are reportedly doing well following the birth.
